Postpartum recovery is the whole-body care that helps you heal after birth — a diastasis recti assessment, abdominal massage, belly binding, C-section scar care, and guidance on nutrition, posture, and movement. Paired with the wisdom of traditional postpartum wellness (坐月 / confinement), a typical programme is 5–15 sessions, starting around 4 weeks after a vaginal birth or 6 weeks after a C-section.
What is postpartum recovery?
Postpartum recovery is the whole-body care, over the weeks and months after birth, that helps you heal from pregnancy and delivery. In Chinese culture this period is known as confinement (坐月), a time for careful restoration. Modern recovery brings the wisdom of traditional postpartum wellness together with clinical assessment and professional technique, helping your abdominal wall, uterus, pelvic floor, and core find their way back, step by step.
What changes in your body after birth?
Understanding the changes helps you understand what to restore:
- Diastasis recti: the rectus abdominis muscles separate along the abdominal wall — affecting up to 60% of mothers postpartum.
- A weakened pelvic floor: pregnancy and birth loosen the pelvic floor, which can lead to leaking or a feeling of heaviness.
- The uterus: needs time to contract back to its pre-pregnancy size.
- Posture and back: carrying and feeding strain the lower back; hormonal changes also affect mood and sleep.
What does complete postpartum recovery include?
Genuinely complete recovery isn't a single action — it's a system:
- Diastasis recti assessment — clinical finger-width measurement, tracked each session. About diastasis recti ›
- Abdominal & uterine massage — improving circulation and supporting the uterus.
- Traditional belly binding — supporting the abdominal wall. Belly binding guide ›
- C-section scar care — preventing adhesions, gentle mobilisation. C-section recovery ›
- Nutrition, posture & movement guidance — from a registered nurse, matched to your stage.
Postpartum wellness: inside out
Traditional postpartum wellness is about restoring from the inside out. Structural recovery (binding, massage) matters, but so do adequate rest, balanced nutrition, hydration, emotional support, and a gradual return to movement — all part of healing.
Recovery is not a race, and it's not about being tightest. Every mother's starting point and pace are different. Rather than chasing an "instant flat tummy", care steadily for your diastasis recti, pelvic floor, and emotional wellbeing — that is the foundation of long-term health.
How our recovery programme works
Every programme starts with assessment, then adapts to your stage of recovery:
- WhatsApp consultation: we learn your delivery type, date, and needs, and suggest a suitable package.
- First home visit & assessment: checking diastasis recti, your scar, and overall status.
- Treatment sessions: 60–75 minutes each — abdominal massage plus binding, adjusted as you heal.
- Progress & guidance: we track progress and give nutrition, posture, and exercise advice.
We offer 5, 10, and 15-session packages (HKD 6,500–16,500), averaging HKD 1,100–1,300 each, all including assessment, massage, and binding. View packages ›
When is the best time to start?
- Vaginal birth: generally around 4 weeks postpartum, once lochia has largely settled.
- C-section: around 6 weeks, once your OB-GYN confirms the incision has healed.
- Further postpartum: even months later, combined with massage and exercise, recovery work still helps.
The first months postpartum, while relaxin levels are higher, are the recovery window — but it's best to have your start date assessed.
Why choose nurse-led postpartum recovery?
Most postpartum recovery in the market is provided by massage therapists or beauticians. At Jasmine Fitbelly, it's led by a registered nurse: we assess clinically, watch for wound and infection risk, manage C-section scars, and place binding and massage within a complete recovery plan — combining traditional wellness wisdom with nursing expertise, safely and personally.
